Wakefield Council’s STEP UP employment programme has supported over 660 residents in the district to access job opportunities this year.
The programme has received investment of £550,000 from the Council to continue and develop its work offering employment support to residents and employers.
This significant investment will ensure residents have the support they need to achieve well paid employment.
Cllr Darren Byford Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Regeneration, said: “We know that many people have seen their jobs impacted by the pandemic, but we are here to help those who have lost their jobs, and to help people already in work to progress.
“We are also forging close links with businesses to help them to recruit workers with the skills they need now and for the future, so that they develop and grow their organisation.”
The Council will use the funding to extend the programme to work with more residents with jobs to support them to progress into higher skilled, higher paid jobs.
